Casino developer’s ‘win-win’ Governor’s Harbour pledge
Summary
Jeff Jacobs, principal of Jacobs Entertainment, has proposed a development project for Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera, aiming for a “win-win” outcome for the local community. The project includes a mega yacht marina, a “boutique” casino, four to five “lock and leave” neighborhoods, a small resort, restaurants, and affordable workforce housing. Jacobs emphasized his commitment to listening to residents’ concerns and ensuring environmental and financial sustainability. However, the plans have already sparked alarm among residents and environmental activists who fear the scale of the development is too large for the area and out of character with the community. Concerns also exist regarding the island’s infrastructure and the potential need to import workers. Jacobs has received “quite supportive feedback” from the government and plans to share his ideas with the community and local MP Clay Sweeting, promising to deliver on his commitments as he has in other developments.
