Gambling Brothers Top UK Tax List as Elite 100 Pay Record 5.7 Billion Pounds | News Ghana
Summary
The founders of Betfred, Fred and Peter Done, have become the UK’s top taxpayers, contributing an estimated £400.1 million in tax over the past year, according to the Sunday Times Tax List 2026. This marks a significant increase from the previous year, when the top 100 taxpayers collectively paid £4.985 billion, rising to £5.758 billion. The increase in tax payments is largely attributed to higher corporation tax rates implemented by the Labour government.
Notable entries on the list include financial trading entrepreneur Alex Gerko, hedge fund boss Chris Rokos, and celebrities like Harry Styles, Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah, JK Rowling, and Ed Sheeran. Haaland, at 25, is the youngest person to appear on the list.
Despite the overall increase in tax revenue, the list also reveals a trend of wealthy individuals relocating abroad, with one in nine taxpayers now residing outside the UK, potentially reducing future tax income for the Treasury.
