Casino suspicious transactions drop 6% in 2025
Summary
Macau’s casinos experienced a 6.1% reduction in suspicious transaction reports (STRs) in 2025 compared to 2024, with 3,603 reports submitted by the six concessionaires. This decrease, announced by the Financial Intelligence Office (GIF), contributes to an overall 6.1% drop in STRs received by the office, totaling 4,925. While gaming STRs have fluctuated since 2019, the recent decline is primarily attributed to fewer reports from the gaming sector. The GIF’s 2024 annual report highlights the government’s commitment to curbing financial crimes, evidenced by an increasing number of money laundering cases investigated and prosecuted. The most common types of suspicious activity involved chip conversions and irregular cash withdrawals.
