New York & Virginia online casino legalization 2026: New iGaming bills introduced
Summary
Lawmakers in New York and Virginia are considering bills to legalize online casino gaming, potentially launching new iGaming markets in both states by 2026. In New York, Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr. presented Senate Bill 2614, proposing a 30.5% tax rate on net gaming revenue, with funds primarily benefiting education. A corresponding assembly bill, A6027, is also under review. Simultaneously, Virginia Delegate Marcus B. Simon introduced House Bill 161, which would authorize internet gaming regulated by the Virginia Lottery Board, allowing existing casinos to apply for up to three licenses each, with a 15% tax rate allocated to problem gambling support, an internet gaming hold harmless fund, and the general fund. Currently, only seven states offer legal iGaming, and the potential addition of New York and Virginia could signal a significant expansion of the industry.
