Old Aurora riverboat casino closing this week ahead of new land-based location opening
Summary
The Aurora Riverboat Casino will close on Wednesday, June 11, in preparation for the grand opening of a new $360 million land-based casino. Officials plan to tear down the over 30-year-old riverboat and turn it over to the city for redevelopment. Until the end of the year, unused chips from the Hollywood Casino Aurora riverboat location can be cashed in at the new site. The new casino, Hollywood Casino Aurora, is being developed at 2500 N. Farnsworth Ave. Rafael Verde, senior vice president of operations for PENN Entertainment, stated, "Our new location is ideally situated to welcome guests to enjoy a broad array of entertainment and dining experiences in the region." The new casino is set to open on June 24, pending government approvals, and officials expect to launch a new website on June 10.
