Powerful N.J. political boss just bought the site of Trump’s first casino in Atlantic City
Summary
George Norcross, a prominent New Jersey Democratic political figure, has acquired the site of the former Trump Plaza Casino in Atlantic City with a group of investors. The property, which was demolished in 2021 and spans about 10 acres, was sold by Carl Icahn’s firm for approximately $5 million in September. Norcross’s spokesperson, Daniel Fee, called it one of the best development sites in the area but did not disclose partners or development plans. Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. praised the acquisition, saying it signals confidence in the city. Norcross, known for his political influence and Camden redevelopment efforts, has made other investments in Atlantic City, including the Formica Bakery in 2022. The Plaza closed in 2014 amid a casino downturn and was later demolished.
