Only mooring nod given for new casino vessel: Govt
Summary
In the Enough is Enough PIL, Goa’s state government told the high court that only mooring permission has been granted to allow a new 2,000-capacity casino vessel to enter the Mandovi River. Advocate General Devidas Pangam stated that no further action will occur before June and that additional permissions are still pending. The vessel was built based on a provisional No Objection Certificate dated 14 October 2022, while the Enough is Enough Association was formed in January and filed the petition on 17 April. The state and the casino company argued that the petition was filed belatedly, just before the monsoon, and that the petitioners cannot block the vessel’s mooring on emotional grounds. The company said it has spent Rs 400 crore on the vessel, that its operations were not concealed, and that the vessel cannot operate as a casino until all permissions are secured, urging dismissal of the PIL for delay.
