MGCB Teams Up with Gamban to Focus on Boosting Responsible Gambling
Summary
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has expanded its support for responsible gambling by partnering with Gamban, an anonymized self-exclusion program. This collaboration allows Michigan residents to obtain a free Gamban license, enabling them to exclude themselves from online gambling for up to five years. MGCB executive director Henry Williams emphasized the state's commitment to providing strong safeguards alongside the expansion of legal gaming. Gamban offers a powerful tool that blocks access to gambling sites and apps across various platforms, including macOS, Windows, Android, and iOS. Unlike traditional programs, it does not require prior enrollment, making it an effective prevention tool for vulnerable consumers. Gamban director of external affairs Matt Zarb-Cousin noted that the app helps individuals who take the first step toward quitting gambling by blocking content in the background and directing them to available state services, a strategy that has improved abstinence rates in other jurisdictions.
