Kiran Kumar E, an assistant manager at Indian Bank’s Girinagar branch in Bengaluru, has been arrested for stealing approximately 2.7 kg of gold ornaments from customer lockers. The stolen gold, valued at over Rs 4 crore, was taken between June 2025 and January 2026 to fund online gambling. The theft was discovered when a customer found items missing after closing a gold loan. A stock verification revealed tampering with 24 packets, with gold completely missing from three and partially missing from 21 others. Kumar confessed to pledging the stolen gold with private finance firms, and police have recovered around 1.2kg. Authorities are seeking court intervention to recover the remaining stolen gold.
