Keokuk casino funds now go through city's SIRRC
Summary
The Keokuk-Southeast Iowa Regional Riverboat Commission launched a new grant funding mechanism for south Lee County on Monday. This initiative, joining three sponsoring agencies including Grow Greater Burlington and Fort Madison-SIRRC, is designed to distribute funds from Great River Casino Resort. Under Iowa Racing and Gaming laws, the casino distributes approximately 3% of its Adjusted Gross Revenues to state Qualified Sponsoring Agencies. Previously, funds were managed by the convention bureau and the City of Keokuk. The newly formed Keokuk-SIRRC, operating under the Keokuk Area Tourism and Convention Bureau, will now receive about $35,000 per month or $420,000 per year. The agency is accepting grant applications from organizations south of 225th Street for projects that create infrastructure, increase tourism, or enhance quality of life. Applications must be received by July 31, with a goal of awarding $150,000 in the first round. Priority is given to projects that leverage other funds, and funds will not be allocated for salaries or utilities.
