Kiran Kumar E, an assistant manager at Indian Bank's Girinagar branch in Bengaluru, has been arrested for stealing approximately 2.7kg of gold ornaments from customer lockers. The stolen gold, valued at over Rs 4 crore, was taken between June 2025 and January 2026 to finance an online gambling addiction. The theft was discovered on February 2nd when a customer found ornaments missing after closing her gold loan. An internal investigation and stock verification revealed tampering with 24 packets, with gold completely missing from three and partially missing from 21 others. Police have recovered around 1.2kg of the stolen gold from private finance firms where Kumar had pledged the ornaments, and are seeking court intervention with uncooperative firms. Authorities advise customers to periodically check their locker contents, as Kumar targeted unattended lockers.
