Construction is underway at the Casino Del Sol Vahi Taa'am, where local artist Joe Pagac will lead a project to paint a massive mural covering 24,000 square feet of the casino’s ceiling, including the interior of a newly installed 28,000-pound copper dome. The mural will depict an Arizona desert sky, with Pagac’s team painting white clouds on a blue background, while casino technicians will manage programmable lighting to simulate changing daylight and sunset hues. Pagac notes the project is significantly larger than his previous work, almost matching the scale of Jessica Gonzalez’s ‘Sonoran Skylines’ mural. The painting is expected to take seven weeks, and the casino is slated to open in 2027, creating approximately 500 new jobs. The dome mural is intended to be a signature visual element for the casino, offering an immersive and changing landmark.
