Following Osaka’s approval in 2023, the Japanese government is initiating a new selection process for integrated resorts, which include casinos. The Integrated Resort Implementation Law allows for up to three locations nationwide to host these facilities, leaving two slots open for application. Local governments will be able to apply for integrated resort development for six months starting in May 2027. Hokkaido and other prefectures have already expressed interest in becoming host locations, aiming to boost tourism through longer stays and increased revenue.
