Casino concessions extended
Summary
The Portuguese government has decided to extend the concessions for Solverde casinos and Estoril Sol “for a strictly necessary period” as the international public tender for gaming zones in the Algarve, Espinho, and Póvoa de Varzim has stalled. The deadline for proposals is currently underway, and after evaluation, a final report will be prepared. The government will extend the current concessions on an exceptional basis until the bidding process is complete, which is expected to take one to three months, unless the tender results are challenged. This issue was previously raised during the legislative election campaign, with accusations of favouritism towards the Solverde Group. The initial goal was to complete the process by December 31st, but despite receiving eight applications, the process has been delayed.
