Treasure Cove Casino donates $2,500 each to five seniors centres
Summary
Following a city council decision not to distribute contingency funds to local seniors’ centres, Treasure Cove Casino stepped in to provide financial support. On December 23rd, the casino, directed by owner John Major, arranged for $2,500 cheques to be delivered to the Elder Citizens Recreation Association, the Prince George and District Senior Activity Centre, and the North Central Seniors Association. Drop-offs for the Hart Pioneer Centre and Spruce Capital Senior’s Recreation Centre are scheduled. Mayor Simon Yu had initially sought private donations after his motion to distribute the funds was rejected. Other council members, including Brian Skakun, Trudy Klassen, and Kyle Sampson, have also pledged support, with Sampson personally donating $2,500 and plans to propose further funding in the new year. The casino’s marketing manager, Curtney Benitez, expressed satisfaction in contributing to the seniors’ activities and operational costs.
