Café-theatre planned for the Palma casino that never was
Summary
87-year-old businessman Josep Perelló has purchased the old Bingo Balear in Palma for €2.4 million, intending to convert it into a café-theatre, potentially including a restaurant. He is currently seeking permits from the town hall to proceed with the venture. The building, dating back to 1909, was previously intended to become a casino, with investors spending approximately €12 million on renovations, including installing roulette, blackjack, and poker tables, as well as electronic gaming machines and a security system. However, the casino project was abandoned due to a lack of necessary permits and subsequent legal challenges. Perelló notes the premises are in excellent condition and doesn’t plan a major renovation, despite the outdated Windows 7 computer systems.
