Publicity-shy gambling queen Denise Coates nets another £260million windfall
Summary
Denise Coates, the publicity-shy head of online gambling giant Bet365, has received another substantial payout of £260 million, increasing her total earnings over the past 15 years to £2.7 billion. Despite a nearly 50% decrease in profit before tax to £348.7 million, Coates’s salary rose to £104 million, and family shareholders received £313.6 million in dividends. This windfall, though less than her record £469 million in 2021, still surpasses the pay of many other UK company bosses. The Coates family’s wealth is estimated at £9.44 billion, making them Britain’s 16th richest. Coates founded Bet365 in 2000 and is known for her early conviction in the potential of online gambling. The company also contributes significantly to the UK Exchequer through taxes and charitable donations via the Denise Coates Foundation, which donated £16.7 million to various institutions, including hospitals and, until recently, Stoke City football club.
