Has Easypaisa fired 30 Employees over ‘Gambling Transactions’ through Aggregator Accounts?
Summary
Pakistan's digital payments industry is under scrutiny after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) uncovered an alleged Rs120 billion online gambling and money-laundering network, leading to the suspension of more than 100 payment aggregator accounts at easypaisa, JazzCash and other processors. Reports claim easypaisa dismissed 30 employees over suspected irregularities, a claim the company has categorically denied. The case, registered around September 24, 2026, by FIA's Faisalabad Composite Circle, alleges that 11 single-member companies recorded credit turnover of about Rs119.93 billion (over $433 million), with debit turnover near Rs118.80 billion. These firms were allegedly set up under the cover of e-commerce and digital marketing, with some creating fictitious websites to obtain merchant accounts. Five branchless banking collection accounts reportedly handled around Rs8.586 billion across roughly 10.49 million transactions. Eight suspects were initially named, including Muhammad Zeeshan and Muhammad Hamza Sarwar, who were reportedly arrested. Investigators linked the network to platforms such as U7777 Game, TD777, Game89, EPIWIN, B9 Game and S9 Game, and suspect funds were moved through mobile wallets, bank transfers, hawala/hundi and possibly USDT. Trails reportedly passed through Mobilink Microfinance Bank and JazzCash before reaching banks including Faysal Bank and Dubai Islamic Bank. More than 100 aggregator accounts were suspended, and JazzCash reportedly launched an internal inquiry. Investigators are now examining whether financial institution or payment provider insiders facilitated the transactions. Note that the Rs119.93 billion figure represents transaction turnover, not proven gambling revenue.
