Darts drives Matchroom profit as promoter warns of gambling law impact
Summary
Matchroom Holdings Limited saw increased profits of £44m for the year ending June 30, 2025, up from £40.5m the previous year, with darts contributing a significant third of this yield. Turnover also increased to £225.5m from £218.3m. The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and World Series of Darts Limited together posted profits of £16.2m, boosted by events like Luke Littler’s world title win. While Matchroom Boxing profits decreased slightly to £9.9m, the overall success is largely attributed to the surging popularity of darts, evidenced by sold-out events at the World Championship and Premier League. Matchroom, which also invests in boxing, snooker, poker, and other sports, acknowledges the strong link between its portfolio and gambling sponsorships. However, the company expresses concern that changes in gambling legislation could negatively impact sponsorship opportunities and is actively working to diversify its sponsor base away from the betting and gaming sector.
