On March 7th, the Cultural Society Casino of Torrevieja hosted a conference titled “Casanovas and His 125th Anniversary,” dedicated to the life and work of Maestro Francisco Casanovas. The event, opened by José Miguel Toro, featured a presentation by conductor José Francisco Sánchez, detailing Casanovas’s achievements, including performances at the 1924 Paris Olympic Games and winning the Columbia Saxophone Prize in New York in 1945. Sánchez also highlighted Casanovas’s influence as a teacher, notably his tutelage of conductor Zubin Mehta. The conference concluded with a musical performance by Sánchez and pianist Natalia Khomyak, showcasing two compositions by Maestro Casanovas. Attendees included local dignitaries such as Mayor Eduardo Dolón and Casino vice-president Asunción Valenzuela. The Francisco Casanovas Association’s next event, a “Family Concert” performed by the Casanovas Orchestra, will be held on March 15th at the Municipal Theatre of Torrevieja.
