Here are the Philly ties to the new basketball gambling scandal
Summary
A U.S. Attorney’s Office investigation has charged 26 individuals, including 20 basketball players, with participating in an international scheme to rig games for gamblers. The case was charged in Philadelphia because key organizer Shane Hennen resided there and placed large bets at Rivers Casino, and because other criminal activity occurred within the jurisdiction. While the scheme primarily involved games in China and NCAA games outside of Philadelphia, attempts were made to recruit players from La Salle University. Several players with ties to Philadelphia-based schools, including Temple and La Salle, were involved, but the bribery occurred before or after their time playing in the city. Several defendants have already pleaded guilty, and the prosecutions will proceed through the federal courthouse in Philadelphia.
