Batavia approves changes to video gambling regulations
Summary
The Batavia City Council approved three ordinances on Oct. 5 that change video gambling regulations. One ordinance sets a 100-foot setback from schools and religious institutions for gambling machines, allowing existing non-compliant businesses to continue but restricting licenses for new owners after a sale. Another caps the number of video gambling licenses at 14, with nine in downtown Batavia. The third reclassifies video gambling establishments from conditional use to approved use and defines a video gaming café. The first two ordinances passed 11-3, while the third passed unanimously. Alderman Kevin Malone supported the changes, stating they provide clarity for business owners.
