‘Casino Secrets’ Leak Ties UK Bookmakers to Offshore Mystake Operator
Summary
The Guardian reported a leak of documents from Curaçao's gambling regulator, dubbed "Casino Secrets," revealing that Sports Information Services (SIS), a racing and esports content supplier majority-owned by three of Britain's biggest bookmakers (Ladbrokes, William Hill, and Betfred's owner), signed a revenue-sharing agreement with Santeda, an offshore operator whose brands include Mystake. The amended contract, dated October 11, 2022, licensed SIS's racing channels and data to five Santeda-run sites in exchange for 18% of gross gambling revenue on racing products and 13% on esports. The deal ran for two years with automatic renewal. Although SIS's content is not licensed for use in the U.K., Santeda's Curaçao license does not cover the U.K. or U.S., and a previous investigation found Santeda sites illegally targeting U.K. customers. SIS shareholders have received at least £37 million ($49 million) in dividends since the deal was signed. The bookmakers, who have warned against the black market, claim they were unaware due to internal controls. The leak, published by German hacker Lilith Wittmann, has been condemned by Curaçao's regulator.
