Aurora City Council eyes plan for hotel near Hollywood Casino site
Summary
The Aurora City Council is set to vote on September 8 on a proposed ECHO Suites hotel by Wyndham near North Farnsworth Avenue. The four-story, 51,000-square-foot hotel would have 124 rooms, a fitness room, guest laundry, and 136 parking spaces. Ald. Daniel Barreiro emphasized that the city would not use any incentives to bring in the development. The hotel could provide overflow lodging for the casino's hotel and a place to stay for visitors to nearby attractions like Chicago Premium Outlets mall. While supporting economic development, Barreiro expressed concerns about traffic congestion, particularly safety issues with cars merging from Interstate 88 onto Farnsworth Avenue. The city plans to conduct a traffic study if approved. The proposed site is less than half a mile from Hollywood Casino Aurora, which opened in late June and generated $17.4 million in revenue with nearly 156,000 visitors in July.
