Brendan Sorsby makes big admission about gambling scandal after 2027 draft decision

Brendan Sorsby expressed deep regret over his gambling scandal in a new docuseries, admitting he needed a dopamine hit and lost everything he worked for.

Summary

Former Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback Brendan Sorsby became embroiled in one of the biggest NFL-related stories of the spring due to a gambling scandal. After the NFL confirmed it would not hold a supplemental draft, Sorsby shifted his focus to preparing for the 2027 draft. In a four-part docuseries called "The Program," premiering on Paramount+, Sorsby opened up about his experience, expressing that he has "a ton of regret" and now understands "how quickly things can go wrong."

The situation escalated when Sorsby entered a residential treatment program in April to address a reported gambling addiction. The NCAA subsequently deemed him ineligible for the 2026 college football season after discovering he had placed bets on Indiana games while playing for the team. Following the NFL's decision not to hold a supplemental draft, the Canadian Football League also declined to register a contract for Sorsby, emphasizing its commitment to league integrity and fair competition. While Sorsby remains eligible for the 2027 draft, his draft stock is now highly uncertain.

Sorsby also detailed the compulsive nature of his gambling addiction, explaining that he always needed "something at stake" or "some skin on the game." He admitted that even after transferring to Texas Tech and earning more money than ever before, he continued to gamble simply for a "dopamine hit." Reflecting on being caught, Sorsby emotionally recounted a phone call with his parents and agent where he felt he had thrown away everything he had worked for his entire life. Previously, there were whispers that Sorsby could have been a first-round pick in the 2027 draft or even a second-round pick in the current cycle if not for the scandal.
