Tan An Sheng, a 26-year-old Malaysian national, was sentenced to five months in jail for stealing $17,300 from a durian stall's safe in Singapore. While covering for his supervisor during the Chinese New Year period, Tan used his access to the safe to steal the funds, which he subsequently lost while gambling at Marina Bay Sands.
Despite the company director initially offering him a chance to repay the money through installments, Tan's behavior escalated as he began borrowing money from colleagues and approximately 50 customers under false pretenses. He was eventually arrested on June 1 after his actions were discovered
