Lotte Giants penalize executives over players' illegal gambling
Summary
The Lotte Giants baseball club has penalized its senior executives and front office staff after four players were suspended by the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) for illegal overseas gambling. Outfielder Kim Dong-hyeok received a 50-game ban, while infielders Go Seung-min, Kim Se-min, and Na Seung-yeup were each banned for 30 games for gambling at a gaming house in Tainan, Taiwan, during spring training. The Giants took the unusual step of also disciplining CEO Lee Kang-hun and General Manager Park Jun-hyuk, acknowledging responsibility for the incident. The team stated they will revise regulations and enhance compliance training to prevent future occurrences and regain fan trust. Despite a dedicated fanbase, the Giants have struggled with on-field success, reaching the postseason only once since 2013.
